Pelissero Barbera d’Alba “Piani” 2007 This cru Barbera is selected from the Piani vineyard of the Pelissero estate. The total production of this wine is around 1500 cases annually.
One of the best expressions of Barbera d’Alba available and a fraction of the price of its closest competitors.

50% aged in large casks and 50% in barriques, including 15% new) Good full ruby. Blackberry, licorice and spices on the nose. Dense and sweet but juicy, with firm acids giving definition to the black fruit flavors. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and serious length. Give this still-tight Barbera plenty of air if you plan to drink it now. (Pelissero also showed me a bottle of this wine that he said had been open for two days and it was utterly fresh.)

The 2007 Barbera d’Alba Piani is beautiful in the way refined layers of perfumed dark fruit grace the palate. This mid-weight, elegant Barbera offers plenty of complexity and elegance, especially at this price point. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015.
