Join us for a relaxed evening of clay and wine in this beginner-friendly handbuilding workshop in partnership with Wine on Piedmont.
Enjoy a curated tasting flight of four wines aged in clay while learning pinchpotting. Create your own ceramic piece–maybe something inspired by wine, like a tumbler, mini amphora, wine glass charms, or follow your own ideas and create whatever inspires you!
The relationship between wine and clay is a long one. Humans have been crafting clay vessels to transport, ferment, age or serve wine since neolithic times. Amphorae and kvevris (traditional clay vessels that have been used in winemaking in the Republic of Georgia for millennia) have come back into vogue recently for their sought after properties. Like oak barrels, clay vessels are porous, allowing the resting wines to develop and mature with some oxygen exchange; unlike oak, clay doesn’t impart much flavor allowing the fruit to speak for itself.
Learn more about this age-old connection between clay and winemaking and how ceramic vessels continue to influence wine today.
At the end of class, you'll choose your glaze color, and we'll take care of the rest. Your work will be glazed and kiln-fired and ready for pickup in approximately 3–6 weeks.

A note about pottery: Pottery is a hands-on, process-based art form, and part of the learning experience is embracing a little unpredictability. Even with care and guidance, pieces may crack, warp, or break during drying, firing, or glazing. This is a completely normal part of learning and creating with clay.
