Friday Night Tasting: Jumbo Time Wines with Winemaker Jason Phillips | June 5th, 2026 | 5-7:30pm

 Natural Wine - Vibe vs Values - let's taste and discuss over 4 glasses of wines from a a relatively new label (founded in 2020) that's growing quickly despite a larger industry downturn... 

Based in L.A., Jumbo Time Wines was started by two friends, Omar Koukaz & Jonathan Yadegar in 2020; In 2022, they tapped experienced winemaker, Jason Phillips (previously with Rhys & Donkey & Goat), to assist with vineyard sourcing and winemaking in Sonoma. 

Jumbo Time works with sustainably-grown (organic or in transition, dry farmed & biodynamic when possible) fruit to make wines that showcase what the glorious state of California has to offer. They approach winemaking with a sense of curiosity and playfulness, often throwing conventional wisdom out the window blending white and red grapes, or making 2-4 different skin-contact wines each vintage--depending on what nature hands them, and a little imagination. And just wait 'til you see the adorable Little Jumbos! 

Some natural wines can--and, for sure, some should be--precious and culty, closely guarded and hyped by gatekeepers; others are just plain flawed (wine isn't supposed to taste like kombucha or vinegar). Jumbo Time adheres to most important tenets of natural winemaking (sourcing well-farmed, organic fruit and using virtually no additives aside from minimal amounts of SO2 when needed) without any pretense.
