DeWames Wine "Chillable Red" 2023
DeWames Wine "Chillable Red" 2023
The first release from DeWames wine, a new label from East Bay local and winemaker, Jason Phillips, who partners with small, organic growers often working in California's unsung AVAs, to make site-expressive, naturalish wines that speak of the sites they come from.
Some of his wines are thinkers; others drinkers. This wine definitely falls in the latter category. Mourvèdre (50% of the blend) brings the spice, herbs and rusticity to balance Cinsault's (the other 50% of the blend) geranium, grape leaf, pomegranate, and dark berry blast. From Bruella Road Vineyard in California's Mokelumne River AVA just outside of Lodi. Light bodied, tangy and aromatic, serve will a chill and drink on a picnic table on a sunny day with your favorite meze.
DeWames is Jason's paternal grandmother's maiden name. Born in Belgium, Nelly DeWames married an American solider stationed in France during the war, returning to the US with him and going on wild adventures--including owning and running a restaurant in Texas. The label is a tribute to Nelly DeWames and her charm, sophistication, hospitality, culinary skill, and love for food, wine and great company.
