Bodegas Vidas is a small, family-run winery owned by Beatriz Pérez and her husband Pepe Florez. Together they are leading the renaissance of Asturian wine growers. Astutria, a mountainous coastal region in northern Spain, is one of the most remote and least known wine regions. Beatriz grew up in Asturias and after working for many years as a research scientist, she decided to return home to be closer to her familiar and revive the local viticultural traditions. Here, the couple manages five hectares (12.3 acres) of 40- to 60-year-old vines, producing 30,000 bottles annually, most of them from native red varieties.
The wines classified within the Cangas Protected Designation of Origin have unique organoleptic qualities typical of traditional wines from the area, in terms of color, aroma and flavor influenced by the nearby ocean. Here, vines are planted to steep hillsides. Clean and bright in appearance, they retain an adequate alcohol / acidity balance. Bodegas Vidas focuses on traditional varieties like Carrasquín, Verdejo Negro, Albarín Negro and Mencía , in reds, and Albarín Blanco in the case of white wines.
