Giuseppe Quintarelli Primofiore 2005
Varietal: Corvina Blend
An “every day” drinking amarone meant to be consumed young. This wine offers rich flavored of dark cherries, olives, spice and smoked oak that is round on the palate.
Primofiore means "first press," and the grapes utilized for this wine--Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc--complete their ripening during a period of storage in wooden boxes, a technique that produces a full-bodied, voluptuous character. The wine's treatment with Amarone imparts rich flavors of cherry, olives, spices, and oak; it is intended to be consumed young. The 2005 possesses a fresh, lively palate scented with violets, herbs and cherry. This is an ideal wine for grilling outdoors. Drink 2009-2012.
About the Producer
Giuseppe Quintarelli is the Veneto’s most importer producer, renowned for his near-mythical Amarone, Recioto and the cult wine, Alzero. Although there are other fine Amarone producers, including Quintarelli’s protégée, Romano dal Forno, the Quintarelli Amarone is inarguably the benchmark for the wine. Quintarelli also established the standard for other Veneto reds, including Recioto and Valpolicella Superiore. He is a resolute traditionalist, following the winemaking standards and practices established by his father and grandfather. He is also a perfectionist, practicing rigorous grape selection and releasing his wines to market when he deems them ready—often many years after his fellow Veneto producers
