The fruit is from Santa Maria Valley. Planted in 1994 on sandy loam with a limestone wash from the hillside. Whole cluster fermentation and aged on the lees in neutral barrels for 11 months. The wine went through native primary and secondary fermentation and is unfiltered and unfined with under 20 ppm of total S02.
This wine taps into the vast nuance of sensorial experience. Aromatics include crushed violet, pink peppercorn, rhubarb, and blackberry. As fresh as this wine is, there is a sublime earthy note of autumn leaves and petrichor. To me, Mondeuse is the feminine version of Syrah. The palate is juicy and upfront with fine tannins and generous acidity. The expansive layers of this wine evolve the longer the bottle is open.
