Crowley Wines produces 3,000 cases annually. Their small size allows for a hands-on approach from vineyard to barrel. They farm and manage the Four Winds Vineyard and work closely with their team of growers to achieve the uniqueness of each site. At harvest, freshness, lower alcohols, flavor and acidity are the touchstones of the picking decisions. Once that delicate balance is achieved, they preserve it throughout the winemaking process, monitoring each cluster down the sorting table and nurturing every tank through natural fermentation to barrel. And then they wait. The winery’s release schedule is influenced by their belief that wine (like many things) benefits from patience. They age their wines for 12-20 months. Their underground barrel room provides optimal storing conditions allowing time for integration and maturity while preserving the wines’ elegance and liveliness well beyond the barrel and into bottle aging.
Bright ruby red color mixed with garnet shows right away we’re in the classic Pinot realm. The stature is light and fresh and energetic. The nose follows suit with high tone cherry and strawberry, driving distinctly light red. This wine is pure pleasure and displays the distinction of 2018 perfectly.
